Darrell Issa, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 48th district since 2021, posted a series of tweets on January 6 and 7, 2026, addressing state regulations, disaster relief donations, and federal oversight.

On January 6, Issa criticized state-level regulatory actions with the statement: “California can’t help itself but to regulate the placement of playground toys. Stop the overreach. Restore common sense.”

Later that day, he commented on fire recovery efforts in California: “Fire recovery donations should go to fire victims. Period.”

On January 7, Issa turned his attention to federal oversight and spending by tweeting: “Democrats needed 80,000 IRS agents to track your $600 venmo payments But, they don’t have a SINGLE question about billions for possible fake daycares”.

Issa’s remarks come as he continues his tenure in Congress after replacing Duncan D. Hunter in 2021. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1953 and now residing in San Diego at age 69, Issa holds a Bachelor of Arts from Siena Heights University (1976). As a member of Congress representing California’s 48th District since 2021, he frequently addresses issues related to state governance and federal policy.
