FOIA Request to California State University San Marcos Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, North Inland News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to California State University San Marcos. This request seeks detailed information concerning the university’s current Chinese National students and related policies.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If privacy concerns prevent sharing individual names, we have requested aggregated data showing the total number of such students and their distribution across departments.

Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes details about each scholarship’s amount and its source. In cases where scholarships are affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, we have asked for clarification or identification within the provided data.

Furthermore, our request extends to any university policies or procedures that outline how student activities are monitored—particularly those involving Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and confidential information.

This inquiry is made on behalf of North Inland News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency through Freedom of Information laws. As members of the media, access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our role in informing the public and holding institutions accountable. We have also requested a fee waiver based on our media status.
